    Object types in identification database

Here describes the types of objects to be registered in the identification database and the difference of process depending on each type.

    Description

Objects to be registered in the identification database are classified into the following five types.

CodeContents
VVariable stars
SSuspicious variable objects
ECatalog errors
NNebulae and clusters
OOther objects

The process when creating the magnitude database is different depending on the types.

Please read Reference Catalogs for catalogs to be register in the identification database for each type.

o Variable stars (V)

The magnitude is recorded in the variable folder by Magnitude Database Construction. However, if a detected star is also identified with a nebula or cluster (N), the magnitude is not recorded because the magnitude is unreliable.

o Suspicious variable objects (S)

The magnitude is recorded in the suspicious folder by Magnitude Database Construction. However, if a detected star is also identified with a nebula or cluster (N), the magnitude is not recorded because the magnitude is unreliable. If a detected star is also identified with a variable star (V), only the magnitude as a variable star is recorded, the magnitude as a suspicious variable object is not recorded.

o Catalog errors (E)

The magnitude is recorded in the error folder by Magnitude Database Construction. However, if a detected star is also identified with a nebula or cluster (N), the magnitude is not recorded because the magnitude is unreliable. If a detected star is also identified with a variable star (V) or a suspicious variable object (S), only the magnitude as a variable star or a suspicious variable object is recorded, the magnitude as a catalog error is not recorded.

o Nebulae and clusters (N)

The magnitude is not recorded into the magnitude database by Magnitude Database Construction. Even if a detected star is also identified with a variable star (V), a suspicious variable object (S), or a catalog error (E), the magnitude is not recorded at all.

o Other objects (O)

In general, no data is registered into the identification database as an other object (O). The code O is recorded in a PXF file to note the star number in the star catalogs such as GSC or USNO-A1.0 used for the examination by the PIXY system. This type is not considered by Magnitude Database Construction.
