It was detected by the PIXY system as one of the candidates of new variable stars from images taken by Ken-ichi Kadota, Ageo City, Saitama, Japan, then confirmed by Seiichi Yoshida.
V1002 Sgr is 1.7 arcmin from MisV0348. But this is another variable star.
Stefan Huemmerich and Klaus Bernhard revealed that it is a Mira type variable with a period of 163.8 days, brightness range of 12.0-15.7 mag(Rc), using the MACHO project data.
